• The no. of jobs/performance present in memory at any point time of time.
  • If the LTS does not create any process then there will be no process in ready state i.e LTS controls the degree of multiprogramming it can incresae (by creating process) or decrease.
  • Assume LTS creates more IO Bound process, (P1 P2 P3 P4 P5 in ready state). Lets select one process P1, it will go to run state and takes very short period of time for execution and finally goes to wait state for IO execution. Similarly from P2 to P5 processes  takes less time and goes to wait state. At this time there is possibility that the CPU becomes idle, so therefore
    CPU utilisation ↓ and
    throughput ↓
  • Assume LTS creates CPU bound process, running state is always busy.
    CPU utilisation ↑ and
    throughput ↑
  • So LTS should select good combination of CPU bound and IO bound processes.
